Health (or the Lack Thereof)

I’ve decided that food is a form of drug.  If you eat certain types of food, they can create different feelings and moods.  If you eat “bad” food (i.e., fast food, processed food), it can harm you.  If you eat too much food at one sitting, it can make you sluggish and slow down your brain activity.

And if you eat too much food over an extended period of time—in other words, if you “overdose”—it can kill you. Or at the very least, you’ll die sooner than you would have otherwise.

With this in mind, I plan on using these drugs very, very carefully. After all, it’s not like I can just stop cold turkey.

There’s a warning printed on the back of my box of Advil PM Liqui-Gels. That warning is as follows:

“This product contains a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which may cause stomach bleeding.”

That’s right, stomach bleeding. Advil PM is supposed to be a pain reliever/nighttime sleep-aid. It says so right on the front of the box. And then on the back, it says it may cause my stomach to bleed. Excuse me, but isn’t a bleeding stomach the exact opposite of pain relief? And how am I supposed to sleep better if my stomach is bleeding?

However, the back of the box also states that my chances of suffering from a bleeding stomach are higher if I consume three or more alcoholic drinks every day. If I’m consuming three or more alcoholic drinks every day, maybe that’s what’s causing my stomach to bleed in the first place.
